- Previous driving experience, if any
- Confidence level
- How quickly you appear to learn and master driving techniques
A New Driver
According to the latest data from the DVSA, learners who passed their driving test in 2024 completed an average of 45 hours of lessons with a Driving Instructor and an additional 12 hours of private practice.
This gives you a general idea of the commitment required, but individual progress varies based on each learner’s confidence and skills.
We all learn at different speeds, and it is important to make sure you have a handle on what you’ve been taught in your driving lessons, not just for your driver’s test, but to be a safe and competent driver.
International Driver’s Licence Holders
Most international driver’s licence holders purchase between 8 to 10 hours of driving instruction to prepare for the driver’s test in the UK. Notably, there has been a high failure rate in this category, so less confident drivers may want to take between 14 to 16 hours of driving lessons before attempting the driving test.
Already have a licence but want refresher lessons
Most learners who already hold a UK Driver's Licence, but haven’t driven for a long period and want to get back into driving purchase between 4 to 6 hours
These ranges are a guide only and will vary from learner to learner.
